Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the 2021 Delhi excise case. The arrest came after searches at his official residence and questioning for nearly two hours.
The case revolves around alleged corruption and money laundering related to the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which was later scrapped. The ED alleges that AAP leaders received kickbacks worth ₹100 crore in this scheme.
AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh, have been implicated in the case. The ED claims they were involved in formulating the excise policy and receiving kickbacks.
Kejriwal skipped eight summons issued by the ED since November 2023, labeling them as "illegal and politically motivated."
The ED alleges that a conspiracy was hatched by AAP leaders to benefit from the excise policy, with kickbacks being collected from wholesalers as per the scheme.
AAP leaders have termed Kejriwal's arrest as a political conspiracy and maintain that it's not linked to any case or investigation. They assert that Kejriwal will not resign as Delhi Chief Minister.
Legal battles continue as AAP seeks urgent hearings from the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, with Kejriwal's arrest, the case takes a significant turn, impacting the political landscape in Delhi.
