Congress Announces Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0

The Congress is considering launching the second phase of its public outreach rally Bharat Jodo Yatra anytime after the first week of January 2024, before the Lok Sabha elections, sources told India Today on Tuesday.

Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0 will be in hybrid mode, with participants marching on foot as well as using vehicles.

According to sources, two routes are being explored for the yatra. If finalised, it will start from the North Eastern state. A senior leader told India Today that the special focus of this edition will be on Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra.

Since the proposed period is the period for general elections, the party also plans to induct prominent faces from the opposition ranks.

As the party plans the yatra, sources said the big proposal is for Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to accompany Vadra. The suggestion has been discussed by organizers as they finalize the nitty gritty of the walkathon that will repeat Rahul Gandhi’s Kanyakumari to Srinagar walk from September 2022 to January 2023.

But the final decision has to be made. There are many factors to consider due to the parliamentary elections coming up soon,” said a senior Congress leader.

The first leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra covered a distance of around 4,080 km before ending in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It traversed 75 districts of 12 states in 126 days, marking India’s longest trek.
