Milind Deora, a former Union minister, severed ties with the Congress after 55 years on Sunday, just hours before Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra commenced. In a significant setback for the Grand Old Party, Deora joined Shiv Sena under Eknath Shinde’s leadership later in the afternoon. Despite being unaware of the specific events, Shinde extended a warm welcome to Deora and other Congress leaders who were set to join the Shiv Sena.

After days of speculation, Milind Deora, who was dissatisfied with the seat-sharing negotiations between Uddhav Sena and the Congress, made an announcement on Sunday that he would be resigning from the Congress. In a tweet at 8.36am, Deora stated that this marked the end of a significant chapter in his political journey. He expressed his gratitude to all the leaders, colleagues, and party workers for their unwavering support throughout the years. With his resignation, he also brought an end to his family’s 55-year association with the party.

Why was Milind Deora upset with Congress?

Milind Deora, a two-time MP of the Mumbai South Lok Sabha constituency, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Congress party. In the seat-sharing negotiations between the Congress and Uddhav Sena as part of the INDIA bloc, Uddhav Sena insisted on contesting the seats it already held, including the Mumbai South constituency. This decision meant that Milind Deora would not have the opportunity to contest from his preferred constituency.
